Summer is finally here again, and I am back in my garden. As of now, I have planted mostly plants I grew from seeds, including bush beans, Roma tomatoes, zucchini, marigolds, and pansies. I did break down and buy a couple green pepper plants because I ran out of time to start them in my "green room".

We have already had a baby bunny trying to nibble all my new plants added to the back bed that I finally cleaned up. Hope they come back next year, and we can move that crazy rabbit to another yard! Sprayed some really stinky repellent to help save my gardens, but feel like I am providing gourmet cuisine for the little pests. Hubby tells me it is just a baby, and I should not send Lady after it, but that baby can eat!!!!!

Pictures posted soon!

Birthday!

My wonderful husband bought me my first spa trip for my birthday this year and the more I wait for the school year to end, the more I look foward to my day of papering! He also planned to take me home to celebrate with a dinner to an old favorite with great friends! All in all, this year's birthday was great!

Hope to celebrate many more like it with family and friends.

Yes, it is that time again! May is around the corner and I have already began planting my seeds and using my spare room/office as a green house. This year we have added lettuce and broccoli to our crops. I also began trays of pansies this year. Can't wait till I can see all the colors in my yard!

Finally, I have a living room that is worthy of showing off! We are still planning some minor changes, but with the pillows, carpet, new couch, new tv I am strating to really love our living room! Plans are in the works to switch the end tables to a darker color, and we will paint the living room a fun (light) brown color called tepee brown! Anyone want to come and see it? We will be taking reservations soon. :)

After a few hours of below zero weather, our hot water pipes froze! I was sort of glad I had to go to work for meetings. Jason spent most of the day with a hair dryer trying to thaw the pipes. We now have a new mission while redoing our basement bathroom, to remove part of the wall and insulate pipes better!
Lady loves the snow, but could do without the cold. She wants to romp around in it and play, but I think her paws hurt!

Windy Day

We woke up Sunday to a beautifully sunny day. As the day continued, the wind began to pick up. Lady wanted to go outside to play Frisbee, and when you would through it, it would float around rather than come down where she could catch it! Later in the afternoon, the wind picked up. We found out later that the highest gusts were 78 mph winds! Things started to blow into our yard from the neighbors, like Ben's swimming pool.

Jason and I went out with Lady around 3:00 and it was so bad we could not stay outside, for fear of being hit by the berries flying out of our tree. After an hour of watching my trees bend and sway in unnatural ways, the power went out. We have never been in our house without power for more than 10 minutes here in Hilliard, so we assumed it would be right back after a bit. As evening approached, power had not been restored. We played some board games, and listened to our battery operated radio. Around 8:30 the DJ announced that AEP was expecting our power to be out for 3-5 days! YIKES!

J and I had to get ready for work Monday without electricity, which was somewhat of an adventure. We came home to a freezer and fridge full of things that had to be pitched. J talked to his mom, who gave us the report from ONN that we could be without power for 2-3 more days. Trying to be positive, we grilled out a few frozen items that had to be used or pitched, and got ready for a few more days without power! Luckily, power came back to life with a bang around midnight, and our chest freezer was spared. We were also lucky enough not to lose any trees in the storm, but some of our neighbors were not so lucky! Here are some of the photos I took Sunday night.

Yipee! 5 lbs gone! Guess dancing at the wedding helped counter act all the yummy food we ate!

Erin's Wedding

We had a blast last weekend celebrating the wedding of my little sister. My mom seemed a bit sad to see the last wedding for her daughters, but had more fun than I have ever seen! We danced, drank, and partied the night away!

The bride was beautiful, the Groom was dashing, and the ceremony was beautiful. Nate and Coby looked too cute for words, and the rain cleared up (thanks to heavinly help from Max and our grandparents) to reveal a picture perfect day! Here are a few of the photos we took!

Yipee! I was down another pound this week, even after visiting home for wedding stuff! I was very relieved, and a pound lighter :)

The Vacation

The house was really perfect for our family! It had 4 bedrooms that were separated in 2's with a bathroom between on both ends of the house. Jen, Mike, Nate, and Coby had one side, and my mom, dad, Jason, and I were on the other. (Erin flew in on Sunday and shared Nate's room, which he seemed to love almost more than the pool!) It had a fantastic deck raised above the pool with rocking chairs. We sat there and had adult beverages each night as the cool ocean breeze blew.

The weather was great all week. The couple of rain showers that we had while there happened while we were at the house, or in the pool! The beach was beautiful and the ocean was warm. You could walk just about anywhere on the island. We spent days sitting on the beach, then cooling off in the pool. Dinners were cooked on the grill, and served family style. It was a fantastic vacation! Jason and I found a local seafood shop and bought some stuffed crab shells that were great, and fresh grouper. (YUM!)

By the end of the week, Jason was already looking online for houses for next year!

The Drive
Our vacation began on a rocky note this year. Trying to be preventative, we had an oil change and inspection the day prior to leaving on our long road trip to the beach. Excitedly, we got up at 4 am and hit the road before 5 so we could drop Lady, our pup, off for her vacation to the Valley. We pulled into J's mom's house at just before 7. As we were getting ready to unpack Lady's travel kit, a funny smell seemed to come from under the hood. As we sat there trying to figure out if it was our car, smoke began to ooze out from under the hood. After a frustrating hour it was decided that the only problem was that the oil cap was inadvertently left off after the oil change. (GRRRRR let's just say I called and spoke with the manager, only to be told we could have a free oil change when we return.. yeah right!) After waiting for a store to open so we could replace the oil that oozed out all over the engine, and finding a car wash with an engine cleaner, as to not smell burning oil for the entire trip, we left the Valley.

Jason drove all day and we reached the planned hotel by 7:00 pm. The Holiday In Express was fantastic with it's king sized beds and fantastic showers. If felt like we just hit the bed when the alarm, my phone ringing, let us know it was time to get back on the road. Jason and I got ahead of the pack, my families caravan, and got to the island after another 4-5 hours. Driving over the bridge to the island was beautiful! As soon as we crested the bridge, you could see the beautiful blue ocean. The island did not seem very wide, and it was like we could drive right into the ocean. It also seemed like it was all rentals and no homes, and we got a little nervous about what the beaches might be like.

We were early, and could not get the keys to the house, so we drove over and previewed the outside. The pool looked very inviting and the house was very close to the beach. I could not wait to get inside to see what it looked like, but we had over an hour to wait until we could get the keys.

Jason had already researched the area thoroughly, so we scouted out a Wal-Mart that was about 10 minutes off the island. My parents caught up to us, and we met to get the groceries for the week.

New backyard decorations!

After several weeks of thinking of different ways to dispose of an old cracked toilet, I finally gave in to the urge to create a white trash planter. Also Jason created new garden beds for me, and I grew all the veggies from seed. I hope we get loads of veggies so I can share with anyone willing to eat them!

Our cute pup, Lady, has taken to swinging on our backyard swing. She is dressed for the holiday in a festive, red, white, and blue color. If only we could hand her a sparkler and an uncle sam hat!

Ok, so I know... I am always on about spending money on stupid things like video games and such, but we did officially cancel our cable in order to pay for this little luxury (it is not my fault the cable guy was scared to death of my dog and decided not to disconnect us)
We bought the Wii one weekend on a bored whim.... and I love it. After the first Sunday, in which I avoided with all my might the paper that was due for my stupid masters program, J and i played all day. I was sore like I had been to the gym for hours the next day! Good news was, sore or not still wanted to play! (Sort of like other activities ...) Searched all week to get the Wii Fit so I could learn yoga and other fun stretching things... and finally found it on the following Sunday.... Love it too. Wish it had a program to follow more than but great tool. The only thing I hate is that the little wii likes to tell me daily that I am overweight! Not something you want to hear on a daily basis.... guess it could be worse.. I could be obese .
Think of all video things, this is the best one... Tennis, anyone?

We just bought a new truck!
After 2 weeks of constant searching online for used trucks, (and I mean constant!) We found that the price of new trucks were about the same as the ones we were finding! We bought a ford ranger just big enough to fit a fishing boat.

We got home and I was working to finish another book, when Dad & J asked if I wanted to walk by the docks. I figured I could finish reading any time, but the walking in the sunshine was limited. We got there just in time to find dolphins!
There were at least 20 of them feeding (or other things...) in the water right past the boat docks that the condo owns. They were amazing! It was like someone knew we were leaving soon, and decided to give us a show to remember. We stood there watching the dolphins for a long time, until I had goosebumps all over while the sun set behind the scene. We went up and had a fantastic dinner, with a sunset to remember.
